Effective family planning, panacea to tackling mother-to-child HIV infection

At most PMTCT sites in Nigeria, family planning services are offered as part of the PMTCT programme centred on antenatal care and maternal and child health services. Part of the package is family planning counselling and information on contraceptive methods.
Generally, family planning counselling and services are part of PMTCT routine care services for all pregnant women, irrespective of their HIV status clients.

In the News: As part of the ongoing efforts to consolidate progress line with, the Ministry of Health with WHO support, conducted a review of the RMNCAH and Ageing programs in the months of September and October 2021. A comprehensive RMNCAH & HAA Strategic plan 2022 -2026 was thus developed with support from WHO, UNICEF and UNFPA. This strategic plan will guide the implementation of Sexual and Reproductive Health, maternal and newborn health, child health, adolescent health and healthy ageing including during the COVID pandemic.

OYO state government is training 270 individuals in community nursing and community midwifery with the intent to employ them afterwards to beef up health service provision in the community.

Provost, Oyo State College of Nursing and Midwifery, Mrs Gbonjubola Owolabi, made the disclosure at the flag-off of the community nursing and community midwifery programmes and commissioning of a block of three classrooms in Ibadan.

Taraba community embraces family planning

Communities in Zing, Taraba State, have embraced family planning with enthusiasm as a way to check family sizes in tune with current economic realities.
Mrs Roseline John Jella of the General Hospital Zing, who is the local government coordinator of family planning, said that there was a lot of awareness as a result of their outreach program and activities of some NGOs, that has triggered overwhelming interest from the locals.

Anambra to sanction health centers with family planning service charges

Anambra state government has warned Primary Health Care (PHC) centers in the state to desist from making financial demands from patients accessing family planning services in the facilities or be sanctioned.
The Commissioner of Health, Dr. Vincent Okpala gave the warning in Awka at a Media Roundtable on Family Planning organised by The Change Initiative, tagged, “Improving Access to Family Planning Services among Women of Reproductive Age in Anambra State”
