FG, Bill Gate to reach 36% family planning contraceptive access in 2018

The Federal Ministry of Health in collaboration with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and the Millennium Development Goal Fund is set to reach 36 per cent access to family planning contraceptives in 2018.
 
The Reproductive Health Division headed by Dr Kayode Afolabi, made the disclosure on Tuesday during a Family Planning Watch final dissemination event in Abuja.

Ear piercing is the process of making a hole on earlobes to enable the wearing of earrings, to differentiate girls from boys, and for cultural reasons among others. In most cases, this exercise is carried out at infancy because of the belief that it is slightly painful at such age. In this interview with GERALDINE AKUTU, Dr. Gbemisola Boyede, a consultant neuro-developmental paediatrician, at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH), sheds light on ear piercing in babies, and precautions to take after the procedure.

Residents have rated Gov. Nasiru El-Rufa’i very low in the implementation of Kaduna State 2016 budget, the News Agency of Nigeria [NAN] reports.
 
The residents, in separate interviews said the budget did not create the desired impact, particularly on the common man.
 
They particularly said that insecurity, lack of access to agricultural inputs by farmers and poor health services have continued to impact negatively on the lives of the people.
 

Government seeks 390bn for health services

As a way of improving the country’s ability to provide reproductive, maternal and child health services, the Ministry of Health has tabled before Parliament a proposal to borrow $110m (390bn) from the International Development Association, an arm of the World Bank.
 
Dr Jane Aceng, Minister for Health while appearing before the parliamentary committee on national economy, said the cash will improve utilisation of health essential facilities in target districts as well as upgrade birth and death registration services as well.

Jigawa communities donates N.4m blood test kits

The Garingabas Local Health Committee in Malammadori Local Government Council of Jigawa has donated blood test kits worth more than N400, 000 to the Garin Gabas clinic.
 
The Chairman of the committee, Malam Nura Mu’azu, made this known on Friday in Malammadori, while presenting the items to the Director, Primary Health Care Department of the council, Alhaji Lawan Garba.
 
Mu’azu said the kits were donated in order to improve diagnostic and other medical services at the Garingabas clinic.
 

Health Development Agency Deploys 1,447 Midwives To Rural Communities

The National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA), has deployed 1,447 midwives to rural communities in the northern part of Nigeria for their one year mandatory Midwives Service Scheme (MSS).

 

 

At a Flag-Off Orientation and Documentation of Basic Midwives held in Kaduna on Thursday, the Acting Executive Director of the agency, Dr. Echezona Ezeanolue, who declared the induction course open, said the programme was aimed at reversing the ugly trend in the maternal and child health outcomes.

Family Health Advocates of Nigeria Initiative, FHANI, a child birth spacing advocacy group, has tasked Kaduna State government, Northwest Nigeria on timely release of funds for Child birth spacing services.
 
Secretary of the group, Hajiya Hafsat Baba made the call at a media forum organized by Nigerian Urban Reproductive Health Initiative, NURHI and facilitated by DevComs.
