Oyo State Government on Friday said it would continue to give priority to child healthcare toward reducing maternal mortality in the state.

Dr Abdul-Azeez Adeduntan, the Commissioner for Health, told newsmen in Ibadan at a news conference to herald the 2016 Maternal, Newborn and Child Health week (MNCHW).

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the bi-annual weeklong event will commence from Dec. 12 to Dec. 16 across the 33 local government areas of the state.

The Federal Ministry of Health in partnership with Population Services International, PSI, and the Society for Family Health, SFH, is unveiling in Abuja today, results of the FPwatch research on Nigeria’s contraceptive methods and services.

FPwatch is a multi-country research project designed to generate evidence on modern contraceptive methods and service availability through surveys administered to all public and private health facilities and outlets.

The Federal Ministry of Health has developed a National Operational plan for the Elimination of Mother-to-Child transmission of HIV (2017-2018), aimed at halting the spread of the scourge by 2030.

Dr Deborah Odoh, the Assistant Director, HIV/AIDS Division of the ministry made this known at the National Conference on HIV Prevention in Abuja on Wednesday.

She said the operational plan had incorporated the roles of the private sector and the community in the bid to end the Prevention of Mother-to Child Transmission (PMTCT) of HIV.

MEDICAL experts have aurged Nigerians to cultivate healthy lifestyle as part of measures to prevent exposure to various forms of non-communicable diseases.

The experts who spoke in Lagos at the Sunfit 2016 Fitness and Health week programme, tasked government to put in place health friendly policies.
