Kogi State Receives N30m Medical Equipment

The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) on Monday presented medical equipment worth about N30 million for 60 health facilities in Kogi.
Dr Alobo Gabriel, the State Team Leader for Maternal and Child Survival Program (MCSP), disclosed this while handing over the equipment to the State Ministry of Health.
Gabriel said that the equipment would be distributed to 45 primary healthcare centres, five training health institutions, and 10 hospitals across the state.

Anambra Govt Will Eliminate Maternal, Infant Mortality – Commissioner

The Anambra Commissioner for Health, Dr Josephat Akabuike, on Wednesday said the state government was determined to eliminate maternal and infant mortality in the state.
 
Akabuike spoke at a programme tagged: “Saving One Million Lives For Results” organised by the Ministry of Health for mission and private hospitals in Abagana Njikoka Local Government Area of the state.
 

‘Only 2.1 per cent of married women use contraceptives in Bauchi’

Only 2.1 per cent of married women in Bauchi State are using a modern method of contraceptive, which is lower than the national rate of 10 per cent.
 
This was disclosed yesterday by the Country Director of Health Policy Plus, with funding from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), Mr. Onoriode Ezire, who noted that because of the low practice of contraceptive in the state, the population of Bauchi is likely to reach 26 million by 2050 as against the present population of about five million.

Ogun sets up committee on health

The Ogun State government, in conjunction with Pathfinder International, has inaugurated a 38-man committee on State Strategic Health Development Plan (SSHDP). The move was aimed at reducing maternal, child mortality rate.
 
While inaugurating the committee at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL), Abeokuta, the state capital, Commissioner for Health, Dr. Babatunde Ipaye urged members of the committee to be committed in the discharge of their responsibilities.

The Enugu State Government has embarked on the training of health communicators on how to effectively deliver exclusive breastfeeding campaign messages to women during their annual August Meeting in the state.
 
The state Director of Public Health, Dr. Okechukwu Ossai, disclosed this to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Enugu.

‘Declare family planning national emergency’

NO less than 214 million   women worldwide that want to prevent pregnancy have  access to modern contraceptives, the UNFPA has stated.
 
Making the declaration in Abuja during the  commemoration of the 2017 World Population Day (WPD), the body remarked that the day should be reviewed to reflect essence of Family Planning.
 
In the views of Country Director, Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, Mrs Mairo Mandara,  who spoke at the event,  “Family Planning should be declared a National Emergency.
