Lamenting the increasing rate of maternal mortality in the country, Minister of Health, Prof. Isaac Adewole, has described pregnancy and child birthing greatest occupational hazard in Nigeria.
 
Addressing journalists in Ibadan at a strategy meeting organised by the Network of Reproductive Health Journalists in Nigeria (NRHJN), Adewole said that a nation must attach priority to women and children, adding that 30 percent of Nigeria’s Maternal Mortality Rate (MMR) can be prevented by Family Planning (FP).
 

Federal government raises alarm over Nigeria’s population growth

Minister of Health, Prof. Isaac Adewole, over the weekend raised a fresh alarm over Nigeria’s rate of population growth.
 
According to him, if the rate was unchecked, the explosion in the nation’s population would impact negatively on the country’s economy and welfare.
 
To this end, Adewole called for the use of Community Health Extension Workers (CHEWS) to address the problems of shortage and misdistribution of manpower needed for the provision of access to family planning services in rural communities and other hard to reach areas.

Nigeria announces nationwide free surgery for patients with fistula

The federal government of Nigeria is planning to carry out free surgery and laboratory services for all fistula patients in all Federal Teaching Hospitals and Federal Medical Centres in the country. This was announced by Nigeria’s health minister, Prof Isaac Adewole. The minister announced this while speaking at the National Stakeholders Meeting on Obstetric Fistula in Abuja.
 

Prof. Adewole Urges Health Professionals To Shun Malpractice

Minister of Health Prof. Isaac Adewole has called on healthcare professionals to shun all forms of malpractice so as not to toy with the lives of people seeking medical care.
 
The minister told a gathering of laboratory scientists on Tuesday in Kaduna that the Federal Government would strengthen existing mechanisms to prevent quacks from taking over the health system.
 
The minister spoke at the opening of the 53rd National Scientific Conference of Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists of Nigeria.
 

Health Minister, UNICEF, Others Urge Actions To Curb Child Mortality

Health Minister, Prof. Isaac Adewole, on Monday, remarked that the country’s mortality in children Under-Five “is still very unacceptable’’.
 
In his remarks at the advocacy meeting on reproductive health in Abuja, organised by the office of the wife of the President, the minister stressed the urgency for the government to invest in health as it did in other infrastructure.
 
He said the administration was focusing attention on the basic health care system and intended to achieve eight million person target in three years.

Nigeria moves to increase contraceptive uptake among women

The Minister of Health, Prof. Isaac Adewole, has said that Nigeria, in collaboration with partners and the private sector,  has set  a target to increase contraceptive uptake among Nigerian women to 27 per cent by 2020.
 
Adewole said this at the Family Planning Summit in London, United Kingdom, co-hosted by the UK Government, the United Nations Population Fund and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation,  in close partnership with FP2020.

Nigeria’s Minister of Health, Isaac Adewole, has decried the inadequate attention the government is paying to health and the overdependence on foreign donors to fund health initiatives in the country.
 
Mr. Adewole, who spoke at the Maiden Edition of Health Communication Conference organised by Association of Nigeria Health Journalists, ANHEJ in Abuja on Thursday, said despite the improvement in budgetary allocation to the sector this year, it was still a far cry from global standards.

This is coming as a Nollywood actor and producer, Jim Iyke, was unveiled as the Special Envoy/Goodwill Ambassador for Maternal, Newborn and Child health.
