1,140 Niger homes to be assessed in demographic survey

No fewer than 1,140 households in Niger State will be assessed in the 2018 Nigeria Demographic and Health Survey (NDHS) which has just started across the country.
The survey will be carried out to produce comprehensive data on the nation’s population, health and nutrition situation.
The Overseeing Federal Commissioner of the National Population Commission (NPC) for the state, Alhaji Yusufu Mohammed Anka said that 1,140 households in 38 clusters in 20 local government areas would be surveyed in the state.

Nigeria infant mortality rate falls — UNICEF, Statistics Bureau

The fifth Multiple Indicator Cluster Survey (MICS) has highlighted a nationwide overall drop in infant mortality rate from 97 per 1000 live births recorded in 2011 to 70 per 1000 live births.
 
The survey was jointly released by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) on Tuesday, in Abuja.
 

100,000 Nigerian children die from diarrhoea yearly— USAID

The United States Agency for International Development, USAID, has disclosed that approximately 100,000 children die from diarrhoea in Nigeria annually.

 

USAID Chief of Party, Dr. Ayodele Iroko, made this known at the Strengthening Health Outcomes through the Private Sector, SHOPS, project in Makurdi.
