Family Health Advocates of Nigeria Initiative, FHANI, a child birth spacing advocacy group, has tasked Kaduna State government, Northwest Nigeria on timely release of funds for Child birth spacing services.

Secretary of the group, Hajiya Hafsat Baba made the call at a media forum organized by Nigerian Urban Reproductive Health Initiative, NURHI and facilitated by DevComs.

She commended the State Government’s effort of creating a budget line of N100 million for Child birth spacing services, noting that it was the first time the state government was committing itself and taking a position.

Hafsat Baba said from previous administrations till date no any government have committed itself in the Child birth spacing initiative like the present which is making the commitment.

According to her, “no any government have committed itself in the Child spacing initiative as this government.

“For a long time, the government have refused to commit itself or create a budget line for Family planning. What we have was the Local governments committing themselves to pay N500,000 each, to provide consumables, like cotton wool, syringes and hand gloves. Later, it was reviewed to N1,000,000 and now N2,000,000. So far, only Chikun Local government area has complied when it released N500,000 in 2012.

“We commended the Kaduna State government for allocating 100 million Naira to the child birth spacing program, while also calling for the release and implementation.
