Minister urges media to monitor execution of health budget

The Minister of Health, Prof. Isaac Adewole has urged the media to monitor budget implementation and support investment in the health sector. He spoke at the Health Communications Conference organised by the Association of Nigerian Health Journalists (ANHEJ) in Abuja.
 
Adewole said the role of communications in health goes beyond the traditional reporting and coverage of activities.
 

Niger Gov Warns Officials Against Playing Politics With Healthcare

Miffed by the refusal of some government agencies to effectively distribute drugs to health centres, Niger State Governor, Alhaji Abubakar Sani Bello has warned his appointees against playing politics with what has direct bearing with the lives of the people.
 

The governor  in continuation of his midterm assessment tour yesterday to Baddegi in Katcha local government area , expressed dissatisfaction with what he met on ground at Hajiya Mumbai Aliyu maternal and child health center in the town.
 

Promoting health innovation in Nigeria through private sector intervention

Despite the large number of investments made in Nigeria’s health sector over the past 10 years, the attraction in achieving the desired results of improved health outcomes could be better.
Although healthcare innovations exist within the country, poor capacity/support systems for innovators have been one of the constraints to achieving scale.
A number of innovations have not made valuable or sustainable impact in the health sector due to the lack of enabling systems or programmes. Every year, Nigerians spend an estimated $1 billion  on medical treatment abroad.

NGO says 800,000 under-5 children die annually in Nigeria

The Partnership For Advocacy in Child and Family Health (PACFaH) says  no fewer than 800,000 children under the age of five are dying in Nigeria annually.
 
Dr Remi Adeseun, the Project Director, Strategy, for the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria (PSN)-PACFaH, made the disclosure in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday in Abuja.
 
According to him, the major causes of under-five deaths include childhood pneumonia and diarrhoea.
