Ebonyi targets 557, 000 children, 139, 000 pregnant women, others in immunization exercise

Ebonyi State government yesterday said it was targeting a total of 557,000 children, 139,000 pregnant women and 613, 000  women of child bearing age for the state’s immunization exercise.
 
The state Commissioner for Health, Dr. Daniel Umezuruike stated this at Ugbodo, the headquarters of Ebonyi local government area of Ebonyi State during the flag-off  of second round of maternal/ newborn child health week in the state.
 

Nigeria, others to increase immunisation coverage

African Heads of State have pledged to increase investment in immunisation coverage on the continent.
 
The leaders made the commitment at the 28th African Union Summit in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, are to increase their country’s political and financial investments in vaccination programmes .
 
The World Health Organisation Regional Director for Africa, Dr. Matshidiso Moeti, noted that while immunisation coverage has improved over the last 15 years , the progress has stagnated in many countries.
 

Finance minister withholds immunization funds

The lives of over 7.2 million Nigerian Children are on the line as the Minister of Finance withholds the release of N12.8bn approved for routine immunization, five months after the President’s accent to the 2016 budget.

 

This was revealed during a CSO/Media training by Community Health and Research Initiative (CHR) with support from the Partnership for Advocacy in Child and Family Health (PACFaH).

According to the Civil Society Organisations (CSOs), routine immunization protects the lives of Nigerian children from vaccine preventable diseases and death.
