In few months time, WHO will be celebrating the 40th Anniversary of the Declaration of Alma-Ata on Primary Health Care. In one of its reports on Primary Health Care, WHO explained that though, the global health context has changed remarkably over seven decades, the values that lie at the core of the WHO constitution and those that informed the Alma-Ata Declaration have been tested and remain true.
 

PMA 2020 Survey: 1 out of 3 Anambra births unintended

A survey conducted in Anambra State on the use of family planning methods by couples to space their children or prevent pregnancy has shown that one out of three births in the state is unintended.
 
Principal Investigator for the Performance Monitoring and Accountability 2020 Nigeria(PMA2020), Dr Elizabeth Omoluabi stated this yesterday at a workshop of the group for the dissemination of the result of the survey and presentation to the state government.
 

 

Nurses, midwives decry poor state of Nigeria’s health facilities

The President of the National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives (NANNM), Abdulrafiu Adeniji has decried the poor state of health facilities in the country, arguing it has made midwives not to perform optimally on their jobs.
 
He therefore called for a stronger health system and well-equipped facilities that make healthcare accessible, especially those in rural communities.
 

Jigawa: Health centres, few personnel

Theirs is not lack of facilities as Jigawa State boasts a number of medical facilities even at the grassroots, but the problem is that the facilities have far too few personnel and too little equipment and drugs to be of much help to the residents.
 
Buji Local Government Area with a population of 92,371, made up of crop farmers and Fulani herdsmen, is an example. Its headquarters, Gantsa, hosts local, state and even federal agencies such the police and National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), among others.
