Ayade tasks Nigerians on birth control

Wife of the Cross River, State Governor, Mrs. Linda Ayade has stressed on the need to empower and safeguard the well-being of women, adolescent girls and young people in society.
 
Mrs. Ayade said such needs could be reached through advocacy tools, behavioral change communication, health talks, training in small and medium scale enterprises among other measures.
 
The governor’s wife made these remarks in Calabar at the occasion of the commemoration of the 2017 World Population Day.
 
Mrs. Ayade who was represented by Jefery Adamade Executive Director, MEDIATRIX spoke on behalf of Mediatrix Development Foundation (MDF).
 
She said theme for this year: “Family Planning Birth spacing: Empowering people, Developing Nation” is apt because such makes families self-reliant and economically stable.
 
Earlier, chief Eze Duruiheoma (SAN) Chairman, National population commission said the World Population Day (WPD) is a global event with the objective of creating awareness on current and emerging population issue.
 
Duruiheoma, who was represented by Dr Bassey Eteng said “family planning and child spacing are personal decisions but the profound implication on the health, economic and social well-being of the society are far reaching”.
 
He described family planning as a life-saving intervention, stress that it prevents unwanted pregnancies, reduces health risks at childbirth, recourse to unsafe abortions among other benefits.
 
The national chairman urged the Federal, states, Local Government Areas, individuals and organizations invest in the provision of sexual and reproductive health services to the people.
