Poor Family Planning Bane Of High Maternal/ Infant Mortality

Non funding for the smooth implementation of family planning programmes by the Benue State government for the past ten years has been attributed to high maternal and infant mortality.
 
At the just concluded one day 2017 review meeting held at the Secretariat of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, in Makurdi, the meeting resolved to press on the Benue state government through the ministry of health and human services to as well as other stakeholders to create a budget line for FP as one of the ways to reduce the high mortality rate of maternal/infant in the state.
 
Speaking at the occasion, the representatives of Pathfinder, Mrs. Edirin Aderemi charged members of the group in the state not to intensify on the advocacy campaign to relevant stakeholders in the state and assured of pathfinder’s continues assistance just as she described Benue as one of the states with potentials to do well.
 
Earlier, the Benue State Family Planning Advocacy Working Group chairman, Dr. Terlumun Swende noted with satisfaction the inauguration of the group last year; stating that several meetings with various stakeholders such as the media, traditional and religious leaders and government officials were held towards sensitizing the public on the need for child spacing.
