Release of Fund for Family Planning
Appeal has been made to the Delta State Government for quick release of the fund earmarked for Family Planning Services for effective sustenance of the services across the state.
The Chairperson, Advocacy Core Group for family planning, Barr. Rachael Obodo Obunseli made the appeal during a media chat on the theme "Family Planning Budget Line Release; The great Imperative in Delta State."
Continuing, Barr. Rachael said that the role of the Advocacy core group was to dispel the misconceptions beclouding the concept of Family Planning, while disseminating the message of the effects of Family planning services to the masses.
She also enjoined the political leaders, religious leaders and traditional rulers to join the bandwagon of canvassing the message of family planning to the grassroots.
While speaking, Dr Bobola Agbonle, Principal Medical Officer, Delta State University Health Services, Asaba Campus stated that Family Planning reduces health risk, pointing out that adequate child spacing keeps women fit and healthy during pregnancy and after delivery, among other advantages.
She also stressed the need of sensitizing the adolescents on embracing family planning services without being shy, in order to avoid contracting sexually transmitted diseases and unwanted pregnancies, while emphasizing that Family Planning Services were more preventive than cure.
