In a communique jointly issued on Tuesday at the end of a one-day regional conference of traditional and religious leaders, the Sultan of Sokoto, Abubakar Sa’ad, Emirs of Katsina, Argungu and Anka, the President of the Association for Reproductive and Family Health (ARFH), Prof. Ladipo Oladipo, as well as First Ladies of Katsina and Kebbi States, they called for urgent action to save lives, avert disabilities and increase productivity.

The leaders also stressed the need for inclusion of child spacing and child survival programmes in community and religious meetings.

“The conference was convened in view of the vital role traditional and religious leaders play as community gatekeepers, project acceptability and behaviour change in rural and hard to reach communities.

“The aim is to engender the cooperation, assistance and support of the traditional and religious leaders in child spacing and child survival efforts.
