Tambuwal Inaugurates Forum On Child Rights Protection In Sokoto

Obviously aware of the need to ensure decent life for younger generations, governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal of Sokoto State has inaugurated a 17-man Advocacy and Community Engagement Forum to promote child rights, survival, development and protection.
 
Tambuwal who was represented by his deputy, Ahmed Aliyu, assured that, the inter agency forum will be all inclusive.
 
Ahmed Aliyu who is also Sokoto State  Commissioner for Works divulged that he is Chairman of the forum while the Permanent Secretary in the state Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, Alhaji Mainasara Ahmed will serve as its Secretary.
 
According to Tambuwal, the Forum would amongst other missions, promote the participation of both traditional rulers and religious leaders, as well as other stakeholders on the health, water supply, sanitation, hygiene and education sector.
 
“It will also ensure application of stocktaking of the community engagement works being carried out across the state.
 
”It will also ensure the capacity building of social mobilizers, to effectively support child rights, child survival, development and protection agenda in the state,” he added.
 
Adding to the expected benefits of the forum, Tambuwal assured that, it would help to reduce infant and under-five mortalities, even as he stressed that, many of the causes were preventable.
 
He insisted that other issues related to deaths of young children in the state include poor nutrition and low capacity of health personnel will be addressed by the Forum.
 
Amongst the list also include, poor sanitation and large number of out-of-school children, especially girls.
