THE United States Agency International Development (USAID), has rounded off a 3 year $15.5 million national programme to boost family planning in Nasarawa State and five other states across the country.
 
Speaking to newsmen at the end of project dissemination tagged Strengthening Health Outcomes Through the Private Sector (SHOPS): The Gains and Future, the Chief party of SHOPS, Ayodele Iroko, said the programme was initiated to assist Nigerian government in achieving its vision 2018 of 36 per cent family planning awareness and compliance.
 
She explained that the agency in line with its mandate partnered with association of medical doctors, association of nurses, association of patent medical stores and community pharmacists to train private facility operators on how to effectively deliver family planning.
 
Ayodele explained that the agency was able to build the capacity of 44 private facilities from nine out of the 13 local government area of the state.
 
The Chief party of the agency disclosed that they have been able to assist private facilities get adequate data of the clients via operating a digitalised record keeping system.
 
She added that the 36 months programme would help limit missed opportunities in family planning thereby curbing deaths among women and children as a result of inadequate family planning.
 
Ayodele also said that the health operators that have been trained from the private sectors, would help train other operators in order to achieve wide implementation of the family planning programme.
 
 
She postulated that the state government would also assist in ensuring that more private health facility operators would be trained and empowered with the facility to carry out proper family planning.
