Increased access to quality family planning services in Lagos is our priority – TCI

The Challenge Initiative, TCI has restated its commitment towards supporting the Lagos State government in achieving increased uptake of family planning in the state.
Speaking during a media chat with members of Media Advocacy Public Health Initiative, MAPHi, State Program Coordinator for TCI, Dr Duduyemi Adeola said that they are currently supporting Lagos State in 35 facilities across Eight Local Government Areas to promote the uptake of family planning and to improve quality of Family Planning service delivery.

The ongoing focus at the national level on family planning and population control in Nigeria could not have come at a more audacious time. In one or two decades from now, Nigeria will become the third most populous country, coming after China and India. And already, there is a big strain on the family regarding living condition, state of health, educational placements, job opportunities, child mortality and related issues. Population can be an asset, if it is in harmony with developmental goals; just as it can be a liability if it is not reconciled with resources and work opportunities.

OYO state government is training 270 individuals in community nursing and community midwifery with the intent to employ them afterwards to beef up health service provision in the community.

Provost, Oyo State College of Nursing and Midwifery, Mrs Gbonjubola Owolabi, made the disclosure at the flag-off of the community nursing and community midwifery programmes and commissioning of a block of three classrooms in Ibadan.

Islam is not against childbirth spacing, Islamic cleric declares

Couples in Bauchi State have been reminded of the importance of child spacing to the health status of both mother and child just as it was stressed that Islam is in firm support of child spacing for good health.

An Islamic cleric who is the Deputy Chief Imam of Ningi Central Mosque, Ustaz Hussaini Shehu made the statement while interacting with members of the Bauchi State Public Health Media Network during a field visit to Ningi Town maternity Clinic to observe the negative effects of COVID-19 pandemic on CBS issues.

Family planning, key economic strategy in recession — NURHI

The Oyo State Team Leader of the Nigerian Urban Reproductive Health Initiative (NURHI), Mrs Stella Akinso, said on Friday that family planning was a key economic strategy in a recession.

 

 

Akinso said in Ibadan that the benefits of family planning went beyond the family level to improving the nation’s health and economic indices.

 

 

According to her, family planning in a recession would enable government to plan population growth and optimise the use of limited resources towards development projects for the benefits of the citizenry.
