Africa has largest diseases in the world, carries 80% of global malaria burden – World Bank

Khama Rogo, a World Bank Officer has observed that Africa has the largest burden of diseases in the world, and the lowest in accessible healthcare delivery to its citizenry.
 
Rogo who is the Lead Health Specialist in Africa, World Bank Group, made this observation when he led officials of World Bank and Pharm Access on a courtesy call on the Kwara State Governor,  Abdulfatah Ahmed at Government House, Ilorin, the state capital.
 

Nigeria records 58, 000 maternal mortality in 2015 — Report

A joint report by World Health Organisation (WHO), United Nation Population Fund (UNFPA), United Nations Children Fund (UNICEF) and World Bank has said Nigeria recorded 58,000 maternal mortality in 2015.
 
The report was presented by Dr Olusola Odujinrin at the 2017 Annual Faculty Day Lecture by the Faculty of Public Health and Community Medicine, National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria.
 

Nigeria needs $912m to fight malnutrition – Expert

Nigeria needs $912 million to tackle the scourge of child malnutrition which is presently ravaging the country.
 
Dr. Chris Osa Isokpunwu of the Federal Ministry of Health, Abuja, disclosed this at a two-day Media Dialogue on “Leveraging Resources for Child Malnutrition in Nigeria” held on Thursday and Friday, April 28 and 29, 2017, in Enugu.
 

Government seeks 390bn for health services

As a way of improving the country’s ability to provide reproductive, maternal and child health services, the Ministry of Health has tabled before Parliament a proposal to borrow $110m (390bn) from the International Development Association, an arm of the World Bank.
 
Dr Jane Aceng, Minister for Health while appearing before the parliamentary committee on national economy, said the cash will improve utilisation of health essential facilities in target districts as well as upgrade birth and death registration services as well.
