PRIORITISING WOMEN AND GIRLS SEXUAL AND REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH NEEDS AMIDST COVID-19 PANDEMIC

As Nigeria joins the World to celebrate this year’s World Population Day, Development Communications Network (DevComs) calls on the Nigerian government to provide for the needs of women and girls in line with this year’s World Population Day (WPD) which focuses on raising awareness of women’s and girls’ needs for sexual and reproductive health (SRH) and vulnerabilities during the Corona Virus (COVID-19) pandemic.

As World population day is observed tomorrow, explosion of unwanted pregnancies and child birth has been predicted by medical experts as a result of COVID-19 pandemic that has led to lockdown and decreased access to family planning supplies.

World population day is an annual event observed on July 11 every year, which seeks to raise awareness of global population issues. The event was established by the Governing Council of the United Nations Development Programme in 1989.

FG urges stakeholders to scale up investments in reproductive health services

The Federal Government has urged Stakeholders to increase their investments portfolios in the provision of “sexual reproductive health services” to fast track the development processes of the country for improved living conditions.
 
The Director of National Population Commission (NPC) in Gombe state, Alhaji Usman Ibrahim disclosed this on Tuesday at a press conference to mark 2017 World Population Day (WPD) activities in Gombe.
