Investigative trip to Irede Community, Abule Osun

 DEVCOMS led a team of Journalist on an investigative trip to Irede community, Abule Osun in Lagos State where it was discovered that residents of Irede community are in quandry.

They have continually agonised over the inaccessibility and unavailability of qualitative healthcare services in their area. The riverine communities inhabited by over 10,000 people have witnessed recurrent loss of lives, notably among pregnant women and the elderly people in the communities as a result of lack of reliable health services.

Access to and utilization of healthcare services is related to the availability of the right type of care for those in need, financial accessibility, quality of care, geographical accessibility, and acceptability of service provided.  In developing countries like Nigeria, access to quality health services in the public sector has been a universal challenge owing to the aforementioned factors. The state of the Nigerian public health system is largely dysfunctional and grossly under-funded.
