One major aim of  Family Planning 2020  partners is to end the unmet needs for family planning,  by 2030, however,  the COVID-19 pandemic has stalled progress towards the achievement of the global goal.
The reasons may not be unconnected with gaps in the country’s health system including the fact that family planning is not considered an essential health service.  In Nigeria, the gaps worsened with the COVID pandemic. Women seeking family planning services faced obstacles.

More women accepting family planning to prevent maternal deaths – Niger govt

No fewer than three hundred and sixty-six thousand, four hundred and thirty-nine( 366, 439) persons used various family planning-FP methods in Niger State in 2021.
The State Family Planning Coordinator, Nurse Dorcas Talatu stated this in an interview in Minna.
She recalled that the first outbreak of COVID-19 in the country in February 2020, affected various spheres including the health sector negatively, explaining that the lockdown, occasioned by the pandemic in 2020, prevented clients from accessing FP commodities.

Anambra to sanction health centers with family planning service charges

Anambra state government has warned Primary Health Care (PHC) centers in the state to desist from making financial demands from patients accessing family planning services in the facilities or be sanctioned.

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike has dared other Governors to reveal the identities of contractors handling projects in their various States.
Governor Wike threw the challenge during the commissioning of the Rumuekini-Aluu road in Obio-Akpor and Ikwerre Local government areas of the state.
He pledged to continue to patronize local contractors who deliver quality road projects for the Rivers State government.
