PMA 2020 Survey: 1 out of 3 Anambra births unintended

A survey conducted in Anambra State on the use of family planning methods by couples to space their children or prevent pregnancy has shown that one out of three births in the state is unintended.
 
Principal Investigator for the Performance Monitoring and Accountability 2020 Nigeria(PMA2020), Dr Elizabeth Omoluabi stated this yesterday at a workshop of the group for the dissemination of the result of the survey and presentation to the state government.
 

 

FG urges stakeholders to scale up investments in reproductive health services

The Federal Government has urged Stakeholders to increase their investments portfolios in the provision of “sexual reproductive health services” to fast track the development processes of the country for improved living conditions.
 
The Director of National Population Commission (NPC) in Gombe state, Alhaji Usman Ibrahim disclosed this on Tuesday at a press conference to mark 2017 World Population Day (WPD) activities in Gombe.

The arrival of new born babies, are often greeted with fanfare but where the unexpected happens, the mood in such homes are better imagined than felt.

 

Research says one out of the 13 pregnant women out there dies while giving birth to new born. More worrisome is another that says four women die at child birth per hour, making it more pathetic that 96 of our pregnant women die daily during delivery in Nigeria.

The Wellbeing Foundation Africa and its Founder and President Toyin  Ojora-Saraki participated in the Family Planning Summit 2017 in London,  United Kingdom from Monday 10 July to Tuesday 11 July.
 
The summit was  organised by the United Nations Population Fund, Bill and Melinda Gates  Foundation and the UK Department of International Development to discuss  efforts to reach Family Planning 2020 goals and ensure that around the  world women and girls are better able to plan their families and their  futures.
 

NPC Tasks Religious, Traditional Leaders on Family Planning

Federal Commissioner, National Population Commission (NPC), Alhaji Aminu Ahmad, Thursday called on religious and traditional leaders in Sokoto State to sensitise the people on the need to embrace family planning and child spacing.

 

 

Speaking during an interview with journalists in Sokoto, Ahmad said the call became necessary so as to build a healthy and prosperous society.

Ayade tasks Nigerians on birth control

Wife of the Cross River, State Governor, Mrs. Linda Ayade has stressed on the need to empower and safeguard the well-being of women, adolescent girls and young people in society.
 
Mrs. Ayade said such needs could be reached through advocacy tools, behavioral change communication, health talks, training in small and medium scale enterprises among other measures.
 
The governor’s wife made these remarks in Calabar at the occasion of the commemoration of the 2017 World Population Day.
 

Nigeria increases funding commitments for Family Planning

Nigeria has increased its funding to commitments for expanding access to family planning for millions of women and girls worldwide to four million dollars.
 
The Health Minister, Professor Isaac Adewole made this declaration at the Family Planning  Summit in London, United Kingdom, where more than 60 governments and partners pledged commitments of at least $2.5 billion.
 
Professor Adewole said Nigeria’s commitment will go a long way in reaching thousands of women and girls with critical reproductive health information.

Nigeria loses 2,300 children, 145 child bearing women daily’

Nigeria loses about 2, 300 children who are below five years of age and 145 women of children bearing age every day.
Deputy Director, Maternal, and Child Health project of the Society for Family Health, Mrs Bolanle Oyebola, said this yesterday during the health outreach organized by the Lydia Dolapo Komolafe Foundation at Wukara community of the Federal Capital Territory.
Over 200 members of the community received free malaria, HIV and vital signs screening during the exercise.
