Sokoto/Kebbi Organise IFAS Start-up Project To Help Pregnant Women In Northern Nigeria

Sokoto and Kebbi States ministry of Health has organised a three day workshop aimed at boosting Iron Folic Acid Supplementation (IFAS) for pregnant women in Northern Nigeria.
 
The IFAS startup workshop would help in no small measure in the sensitising not only child bearing age women in the region but also their husbands on adequate preparation before having children.
 

Kaduna test runs child spacing injection in LGs

Kaduna State Government has expressed satisfaction over the progress been recorded in child spacing across the state as it announced plans to test run a new injection in four local government areas of the state.
 
According to the state government, the administering is a pilot project which if successful will be expanded to other local government areas of the state.

A gynaecologist and wife of Niger State governor, Dr. Amina Abubakar Sani Bello, has called for child spacing to check the increasing rate of maternal mortality in the state.

 

 In an address at the opening ceremony of the World Contraception Day (WCD) Ambassadors project at Gyigyi and Sharuwadna communities in Shiroro Local Government Area, Dr. Amina said the maternal mortality rate in the state was high and that all hands must be on deck to check it.

 

'Kangaroo mothering' helps boost a child's health and intelligence, study finds

Kangaroo mothering”, the practice of continuous skin-to-skin contact with a newborn baby, results in healthier, more intelligent and successful offspring, a new study reveals.

 

 

A 20-year follow-up from a landmark trial found that those nurtured in the kangaroo method scored higher in IQ tests and earned 53 per cent more.

 

 

They were also found to be less likely to have behavioural problems such as aggression and display absenteeism than babies in a control group.

 

 

Group to Conduct House-to-House Education on Maternal, Child Health in Oworonsoki

A youth group in Lagos, Carrington Youth Fellowship Initiative’s Health Team has decided to tackle the spate of maternal and child mortality in Nigeria by engaging and educating the members of Oworonsoki community on better maternal and child health. The group plans to organise a three-day house-to-house education visit to the members of the community especially the slum areas of the town, to talk to pregnant women and people who take care of women under the age of five years, they also plan to share educational resources and use SMS to reinforce the message.

75,000 pregnant women risk transmitting syphilis to children yearly– Survey

Prof. Oladapo Ladipo, President of the Association of Reproductive and Family Health (ARFH), says 75,000 women are at risk of transmitting syphilis to their unborn children annually in Nigeria.

 

Ladipo made this known when he was speaking with newsmen in Abuja on Wednesday.

 

He said that the figure was drawn from the recent survey conducted by Mamaye Evidence for Action and PATH, both are Non Governmental Organisations (NGOs).

 

Adamawa flags off maternal newborn, child health social protection scheme

The Maternal Newborn and Child Health Social Protection Scheme has taken off in Adamawa State.
 
The programme, supported by the European Union and UNICEF, was flagged off on Monday by wife of the state governor, Maryam Bindow.
 
At the ceremony in Malabu village of Fufore Local Government Area, Mrs. Bindow urged mothers, who are the major beneficiaries, and health workers involved in the scheme to give the intervention their full support.
