DevComs, TCI trains Gombe journalists on media advocacy for Child Birth Spacing

Development Communications (Devcoms) Network, with support from The Challenge Initiative (TCI) has trained 25 journalists in Gombe, northeast Nigeria, on writing compelling stories that will increase public awareness on child spacing, as well as encourage policymakers improve financing of child spacing programme in the state.

Media roundtable instituted by Development communications network (DEVCOMS) in collaboration with The challenge initiatives (TCI) and kano state government organised a media roundtable for journalist in kano state.

The Director public Kano state health Ministry of health Dr Imam wada Bello said the pandemic has affected alot of areas, the economy,causes distraction of health services and many more.

Media Forum in Niger State instituted by the Development Communications Network and The challenge initiative team arrived at model clinic, paiko at paikoro local government in Niger State on the 19th of May, 2020. The team were welcomed by Mrs Marcus Sarah, the family planning provider in the facility.

Mrs Sarah Marcus Introduced the team to other health workers in the facility and also told the team the services rendered by the clinic, methods used and procedures involved in becoming a patient at the facility.

The team was welcomed by the Health workers at the facility and Mrs Hadiza Hassan was introduced to the team as she was to guard the team through their visit.

Prof. Josiah muthir a family planning expert spoke as Guest Speaker, According to him, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, families are compelled to stay home, day and night, for periods of between one to 12 weeks depending on the country or state, hence facilitating intimacy.

Media advocacy instituted by The Development Communications (DevComs) Network and The Challenge Initiative (TCI) called on the Kano State government to create a specific budget line for Child Birth Spacing, CBS in order to reduce its high maternal mortality rate.

The DevComs Media Consultant, Mr Iliya Kure made the call during a three-day media advocacy training on childbirth spacing organised by DevComs and TCI, for journalists and social media influencers in the state.

Media advocacy training instituted by Development Communications (DEVCOMS) Network and The Challenge Initiative (TCI).

Journalists in Bauchi State have been urged to sensitise families on the importance of child spacing.

The call was made by the Coordinator, DEVCOMS, Akinlolu Akinpelumi, recently during a three-day training for journalists in Bauchi State.

Stressing that as critical stakeholders in creating enabling environment and disseminating useful information to community members, he said journalists should be up and doing.

Media advocacy training instituted by Development communications (DEVCOMS) Network and The challenge initiative (TCI), hosted a group of media practitioners and journalists to a 3-day workshop on media advocacy for family planning in Kano state.

The workshop was aimed at highlighting the media’s role in enhancing advocacy for CBS in policy and action, strengthening the ability of the media to effectively disseminate CBS messages as well as build the capacity of journalists and reporters to serve as family planning and CBS advocates in the state.
