Nigerians living with HIV discuss stigmatisation in hospitals

People Living With HIV (PLWHIV) said they experience discrimination from doctors and health workers at health facilities in Nigeria.
They also decried the level of stigmatisation that they encounter on a regular basis.
The South-West Zonal Coordinator for the Network of People Living With HIV in Nigeria (NEPWHAN), Abiola Ajani, said Nigerian doctors and health workers have devised ways to discriminate against PLWHIV.
She said the stigma and discrimination in health facilities affect PLWHIV adherence to treatment.

Nurses, midwives decry poor state of Nigeria’s health facilities

The President of the National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives (NANNM), Abdulrafiu Adeniji has decried the poor state of health facilities in the country, arguing it has made midwives not to perform optimally on their jobs.
 
He therefore called for a stronger health system and well-equipped facilities that make healthcare accessible, especially those in rural communities.
 

Family planning: private hospitals outdo public

Latest survey assessment the availability of family planning commodities across Nigeria has found that for every one public health facility able to provide family planning service, three private outlets do the same.
 
The survey suggests government distribution of family planning commodities and services could be better done through private outlets.
 
The FPWatch survey of more than 2500 outlets found private sector accounted for 86% of outlets stocking contraceptives or providing services in Nigeria.
