NGO recruits 2,208 workers on child spacing

A Non-Governmental- Organisation (NGO), Association for Reproductive and Family Health (AFRH), yesterday said it has recruited 2, 208 community-based distribution agents across the four focal states of Kebbi, Zamfara, Jigawa and Katsina to sensitise husbands and mothers on the benefits of child spacing.

The Minister of Health, Prof. Isaac Adewole has reaffirmed the Federal Governmt’s commitment towards achieving Universal Healthcare Coverage in Nigeria.
 
A statement issued to LEADERSHIP, on Thursday, revealed that the Minister gave the assurance during a Road Show Sensitization Campaign to mark the World Universal Healthcare Coverage Day at the Kuchigoro Community in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja.
 
Adewole further encouraged the people of the community to support the government to achieve quality health care across the country.
 

Smartphone technology combat child deaths in conflict area

A new technology from the International Committee of the Red Cross will allow health care workers use smartphones and tablets to improve diagnosis and drug prescriptions for children aged under five.

 

The technology will provide standardised procedures for managing common medical issues, and at same time collect data that can provide information for epidemiological surveillance.

Obama administration bars states from withholding federal money from planned parenthood

Mindful of the clock ticking down to a Trump presidency, the Obama administration issued a final rule on Wednesday to bar states from withholding federal family-planning funds from Planned Parenthood affiliates and other health clinics that provide abortions. IN recognition of the important role that they play in the provision of healthcare, especially at the grassroots, Traditional Birth Attendants, TBAs, have been recognised as indispensable to healthcare delivery in the country. 

 

A past Chairman of the Lagos State Traditional Medicine Board, Dr. Bunmi Omoseyindemi who stated this position, said the State government should put in place capacity building programmes to boost the confidence of TBAs to safely take  deliveries and make quick referrals in case of emergency.

 

HIV/AIDS: UNICEF lauds Kaduna State Govt’s response

The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) on Wednesday commended the Kaduna State Government’s response to prevention of Mother-to-Child Transmission of HIV/AIDS.

 

The UNICEF chief on HIV/AIDS, Dorothy Mbori-Ngacha, gave the commendation at a meeting in Kaduna.

 

Mbori-Ngacha said that the state government would soon achieve the Prevention of Mother-to- Child Transmission (PMTCT) of HIV/AIDS.

 

She said that the state was able to test and counsel large number of women on HIV/AIDS in 2016.
