Nigeria Records Highest Malaria Deaths In 2015

The Chief Executive Officer of Private Sector Health Alliance of Nigeria, Dr. Muntaqa Sadiq,‎ has lamented the high rate of Malaria cases in Nigeria, saying over 100 million malaria cases and about 300,000 deaths were recorded in 2015.
 
Speaking at the  launch of ‘Malaria-to-Zero initiative’, a project that seeks to galvanise private sector resources towards averting 1 million malaria cases by 2020, Sadiq said Nigeria has the highest number of malaria casualties worldwide.
 

Govt to round off polio outbreak response campaign

The Taraba government on Friday rounded off the polio outbreak response campaign with five successful rounds of immunisation for under-five children.
 
Gov. Darius Ishaku, who inaugurated the final round at Lankaviri near Jalingo, expressed satisfaction that the last four rounds of the exercise recorded 100 per cent success in the 168 council wards of the state.
 
The governor said the campaign was imperative given the nearness of Borno which recorded new cases of wild polio virus recently.
 

2.5m children for de-worming in Anambra

The Anambra Government is to de-worm over 2.5 million preschool and school age children from Dec. 7 to Dec. 9, an official said on Saturday.
 
Dr Joe Akabuike, the state Commissioner for Health, made this known to newsmen in Awka, saying that the exercise would cover children aged one to 15 years.
 
He said that the exercise would be flagged-off by Gov. Willie Obiano of Anambra at the Central School, Isi-Anaocha in Awka North Local Government Area.
 

Zamfara governor’s daughter to check child marriage

The daughter of the Zamfara state governor, Hajiya Zainab Yari, has drawn up an education programme towards checking forceful marriage through her Non-Governmental Organization, “Himma Community Health Circle Initiative (H. Coheic).
 
This was disclosed by the NGO’s Public Relations Officer, Eunice Bosua at a press conference in Gusau on Saturday.
 

Health agency claims recording 98% success in HIV prevention

The Bauchi State Agency for the Control of HIV/AIDS, Tubercolosis, Leprosy and Malaria (BACATMA) said it had recorded 98 per cent success in its effort at preventing the transmission of HIV from mother to child in the past 11 months.

Without family planning, unplanned pregnancy is sure

Researchers have said that the richest women in Lagos State are more likely than their poorest counterparts to report using a family planning method.
They warn that without family planning, women risk having unplanned pregnancy.

This is a finding from a recent survey by the Performance Monitoring and Accountability 2020-Nigeria research team.

The researchers say the result holds true for both modern methods (pills, condoms, injectables, IUDs and implants); and traditional methods (withdrawal and periodic abstinence).
