An online portal, myfptori.com is helping young people tell their stories about contraception, family planning, sexual and reproductive health.
The portal started with a $5,000 seed grant to ambassadors of contraception to collect and share digital stories about young people’s sexual and reproductive health and rights in their home countries.

Proprietress tasks parents on family planning

The proprietress, Laurel Schools, Jakande Estate, Lagos, Mrs. Christiannah Onawole, has advised parents to have the number of children they can cater for.
 
She said that family planning would ensure that each member of the family gets the maximum support possible to succeed.
 
Onawole said this on Saturday during the 9th Biennial Inter House Sports event of the school in Lagos.
While urging government not to see schools as cash cows, Onawole added that sporting activities enabled pupils to be mentally alert and receptive to learning.

As the National Assembly (NASS) considers the 2017 budget, an item  under the Ministry of Health’s (MOH) submission proposes to spend ₦915 million for the provision and distribution contraceptive commodities as part of counterpart fund.
 
This unethical waste of scarce resources is worrying and symptomatic of lack of strategic thinking that this administration is struggling to overcome in several area of policy administration.
 

Bill Gates’ Foundation Inaugurates Family-Planning Unit In Ibafon PHC

The Nigerian Urban Reproductive Health Initiative  (NURHI) 2, a Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation funded project, on Monday inaugurated a family planning unit at the Ibafon Primary Health Centre in Ajeromi Ifelodun LGA, Lagos State.
 
NURHI 2 put the family planning unit put in place under a “72-hour Family Planning Clinic Make-Over’’ project from 50 selected primary health centres (PHC) and hospitals in Lagos.
 

Hajj: Sokoto mulls family planning packages for female intending pilgrims

Sokoto state government may introduce family planning packages to the female intending pilgrims because of the suffering pregnant women go through during Hajj exercise.
Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal disclosed this at the inauguration of the newly elected officials  of the Medical Women Association of Nigeria, Sokoto state branch.
 
Tambuwal who was represented by the Commissioner of Health, Dr. Balarabe Kakale said this was  to allow women perform the religious rites while in the holy Land without any hitch.
 

Trump to cut off funding to UN agencies

A draft executive order from the Trump administration orders government to stop funding any United Nations(UN) agency that promotes “the performance of abortion or sterilisation as a method of family planning.”
 
It’s one of a number of prohibitions in the order that sets up a process for reviewing all American contributions to the UN—and automatically eliminating many others.
 

Family planning: private hospitals outdo public

Latest survey assessment the availability of family planning commodities across Nigeria has found that for every one public health facility able to provide family planning service, three private outlets do the same.
 
The survey suggests government distribution of family planning commodities and services could be better done through private outlets.
 
The FPWatch survey of more than 2500 outlets found private sector accounted for 86% of outlets stocking contraceptives or providing services in Nigeria.

The Duterte administration's 10-point socio-economic agenda includes, among others, the strengthening of the implementation of the Responsible Parenthood and Reproductive Health Act of 2012 (RPRH) to enable poor couples to make informed choices on financial and family planning.
 
The EO orders the DSWD to integrate the RPRH strategies in the national poverty reduction and social protection programs.
